Omaha Public Power District is investing in more wind power.
The board took public comments on the plan to buy more of the renewable energy from a facility under construction in western Nebraska.
President and CEO Gary Gates said the project puts OPPD at 10 percent renewable energy six years ahead of its original goal. ?
?We expect generation in January of 2014 out of this wind farm. So everything done, turbines up and electricity coming to OPPD January of 2014, and it will be for a ?25-year contract," Gates said.
Gates said customers will not see their energy bills increase or decrease due to the investment.
